3/2/20
We're moving directly into our next solo project. 3D Tracking. In this project, we'll be learning how AE's 3D tracking can help you out with simple tasks, to making cool effects. You'll also have today and Wednesday for your 80s theme film, and I'll be collecting them on Friday. 3d tracking takes some processing time, so your filmed items won't be long. You'll be doing most of the work on this in AE. Project milestone breakdown: Filming for this due - 3/12 worth 10points AE work due - 3/27 worth 15points I want to see progress work, so I'm splitting up the points for all future projects with milestones. No points will be given on beginning/later milestones. |

What? An actual update?! Yup! As I mentioned, we are going to get back on track. I can't allow the class to stay idle any longer. We're going to review some AE videos, and then we will start on something fun to break you all into it. We are going to make lighsabers. BUT, we are going to use a plugin to help with this. You can make lightsabers completely in AE, but for this example I want you all to just get used to the frame by frame animation we have to do in it. So, for our break down.... First, watch the AE in 5 minutes. Then watched the 50 tips & tricks. Lastly, watch the lighsaber demo. You assignment will be to create a 5-7 second lightsaber scene. We'll go over the details in class about approaching this. This will be due on Feb 27th, and is an individual project. |

Well, here we are with a temp smaller class. As I mentioned on our last class, we'll move slow and re-learn some better skills filming. Once we are back to 5B again, we'll move into After Effects.
Our only project this month will be the Monthly. A parody on anything. This one needs to be three minutes long, with much better filming done.
Speaking of which, going into this new semester, your grading will include how well your footage looks/filmed. Is it in focus? Good composition? Telling a story? These are all requirements for your film projects going forward.
Story-boarding will also become a norm for projects. Even if you can't draw, you can complete a storyboard for your work. It's a great way to see if your project will actually look good before you even film it. Share it with other groups and see if it makes sense to them, if it doesn't, you may need to refine your idea.

Remember, 1-2 minutes long is the goal. Is due 12/11.

Greetings class. Today, your 50/50 project is due by the end of class. Late submissions will not be taken, as your team should have taken up the slack. Note, your monthly is due Thursday. Today, we will be going over our next project. This is an individual project, that will lead into your next team project. The individual project is - Camera Shots 101.
Each shot you use as an example, shouldn't be longer than 5 seconds. That means, your final video should be around a minute long. The Team project is - Camera Shots in Use.
Try to not make it seem random, and tell a small story. For example, it could be something as simple as someone getting out of class, walking, and stepping in gum. There are several shots you could use with that quick example. Lastly, the Nov/Dec will be due on 12/11. The theme will be determined on 11/18, when we review the previous month and pick a winner. |

CLASS UPDATE
Hey gang. I hope you all are safe, and made it home with little issue.
I've had to adjust Projects because of the loss of days. Pending technical issues, here is the update for due dates on things we were already working on:
Because of the loss of days, the Nov Monthly will be combo'd with Dec. So, the Nov/Dec monthly (just one video), will be due 12/11.
This is a breakdown of what's the come:

Here is your reminder, that filming for your 50/50 is due on the 17th. This is a milestone grade, so while it won't tank your grade if your filming isn't done, it does affect it. The final of this project is due: 10/28/19
And don't forget about your Monthly Challenge!

50/50 Horror theme project In this project, your goal is to replace 50% (or as close as possible) of the footage, with your Team's own footage, recreating the scenes you replace. If the trailer you choose is 2 minutes 30 seconds long, you'll be replacing 1 minute 15 seconds of footage. To make this easier to see what you need to replace, bring the trailer into Premiere. Cut the scenes out from the trailer, and put them on the Video line above. See image to the right. As an example. Once you've figured out which footage you want to replace, condense the two video lines and see if they are about equal. Requirements: Use a horror themed movie trailer. Replace 50% of the footage with your Team's own recreation. Must be as close as original look as possible (pay attention to lighting and such). Choice for movie trailer due on Monday the 7th. We'll be doing milestone grading on this project. That means, instead of one grade on the project, you'll be graded on your team's progress as well as the final product. |
9/17/19
Good morning. Today, your Film Trade project is due by the end of the class. I will be allowing extended time on those that were absent during the project. And, per usual, late work is accepted but at a grade reduction per class it's turned in late. To the left is the video on how to create a Cinemagraph. What's is that? Check out THIS site on what they look like. The second video is more tips for Premiere, and we'll watch this in class also. This is out next project: The Cinemagraph It is an individual project. You will be creating three different Cinemagraphs, that are no longer than 8 seconds long each. Each one must use a different video (no using the same video, three different ways). You may use any video you want, or create your own by filming it. Remember, you want to locked camera. If there's movement, it's going to be much harder (sometimes near impossible). No sound. Due on 9/27/19 We will watch the video in class, and go over some of the steps so it's clear. Please also keep working on your Monthly Video! Also due on the 27th! |

Hi folks, as mentioned, you have sub today. Please treat Mrs. Elkins with respect. I will be on Discord for any tech questions, but note I may not answer quickly. You should be continuing to work on your Film Trade project. This is your first team experience. If things aren't going perfect, talk to each other and figure out what went wrong. If you had any really bad issues with a teammate, please feel free to email me directly. Now. Today, I'd like you to take some time to review these two videos about Premiere. I'd like you all to pay close attention to the Cuts & Transitions video. Try and use some of the techniques in that video in your Film Trade video, as best you can. The quality of what you filmed is only lightly being graded. We haven't gotten into more serious filming (that's next!). So, I'm not grading you on what you don't know. That said, I'd hope if you footage was really bad (like out of focus), you went back and re-filmed. What I'll mainly be looking for is:
By next Tuesday the 17th, you'll be turning in not just your final render of your Film Trade, but I want you to create a new sequence, place all the shots you used in the time line so they play one after the other, and render that out too. This way, I can see what you had to work with, and what you created. |

MONTHLY FILM CHALLENGE
Each team is responsible for submitting a 1-2 minute short each month. This can be a team effort, solo, or a combo of just some of the team.
The content of this first one is your team's choice. For examples: horror, interview, documentary, sports, etc. It must make sense. If you decide to do a piece about the school, a student, teacher, etc. we can possibly submit it to Broadcast Journalism for consideration to be added in the weekly bulletin. So, keep that in mind.
We will watch these videos the first class of the month. If you didn't guess, it's always due by the last class day of the month. If we have a short month because of break, you must submit your film by the last class day of that month. There will be reminders.
We will vote on the best video via anonymous quiz. In the result of a tie, I'll sway the final vote.
The winning team gets to choose what the theme is the next month's Monthly Film Challenge is. So, if you win and want it to be all My Little Pony themed, everyone has to do a MLP film. I reserve the right to make your team choose something else, if I deem it crude, insulting to a group, or too difficult to achieve by all teams.
This first one is due the 27th.

Morning all. Today we'll be continuing to work on our Film Trade project.
I'll go over some information about Premiere, adding some skills to your knowledge.
Wednesday, I am on campus, but no teaching. So you will have a sub. Mrs. Elkins will be your sub for the day. I will have further instructions on here for that day, on what you should be working on, as well if you're done with Film Trade, a small assignment you can start on. I will be on Discord to answer questions that she cannot. You also will not be able to use equipment Wednesday, so plan ahead.
On Friday, we have special guests coming in. Two members of Definition Films will be here, Justin Liddell, and Derek Ramos. They will be going over what their company is about, how they got there, and show some film work they've done. This is part of one of two visits. Next semester, I'll have them return to be part of an assignment for all of you.

Today we'll be going over the GH4 camera, so you can start on your next Project: Film Trade. If you haven't already, please watch the videos to the right. I'll be giving each FIlm 1 group a GH4 to have at their team area to reference. I have set the GH4 cameras to the settings for this project. As a note, if you are using your own camera, please set your settings as close as possible to the same. Settings - 1080p at 24fps for those using your own. Do be sure to adhere to the settings. If you film at 30 or 60fps, your videos will not look correct in the final part. Details for the project: Film Trade
Remember, YouTube is your friend for learning features in Premiere also. For an example, try searching for "reverse footage in premiere". You'll find several videos on how to do so. This week is learning the camera, and filming your pieces mostly. I'll be covering some items in Premiere, and will start to touch on composition in filming also. The due date for this project is 9/17 |

Today your Editing Mashup is due by the end of class.
We'll also recover some of Premiere that we went over last time, and learn new techniques.
Today I'll also introduce our first Team project - Film Trade. In this project, you'll be filming 4x 30 second scenes, and giving that footage to the teammate to your left. That person will edit your two minutes of footage down to one minute, add music, and make some kind of sense out of it. I'll explain more in class today, and will post full details this weekend.

Remember your editing project is due Thursday the 29th this week. Late assignments will be a full grade reductions per day late. On the flip side, addition versions of this projects will be given Extra Credit. I will be going over our next project on Thursday, so you really want to be as close to done as possible.
I will be going over some more on Adobe Premiere today. I won't be covering every nook and cranny of Premiere, as that would require a class purely dedicated to only editing. So, if you feel like you'd like to learn more, check out my Tutorial section. Whenever I find new videos on good tricks/tips, I post them in there. It's an ever-growing area. But don't worry, we'll still be learning a lot in this class!
We'll be going over:
I'll also being over quickly over how to Google share your project to me, as this will be the main way I want your submissions handed in.

Project: Editing Mashup 1.0
But first! We're gonna need a YouTube downloader. We will be installing Firefox on your machine (if it's not already there), and installing THIS plugin so we can easily download videos.
We will also be installing a media player, so you can view almost any media video file. Please click THIS for that download.
Adobe products should all be working fine today.

- It must be at least 2 minutes long.
- The song you use, is your choosing. Please nothing with too much profanity.
- You are limited to use video footage from only PEXELS. <---that's clickable.

Everyone should have their video intro done. We'll go over in class on how to share it to me. You can also watch THIS video, on how to share a file via Google Drive.
Let's start today with confirming your login/password for your school account is working fine. You will be using this to login each day to your PC, so it is not optional. You should have already had to check last week. Without your login/password working, you will not be able to use the PC or submit assignments.
Next, everyone should setup their Discord account, and log into our server. This is also, not optional. Our Discord will be how everyone can coordinate schedules for team projects and easy communication to me. Look below on how to setup an account. Both PC and Mobile will be needed (I'm assuming a lot of you probably already have it on your phone).
Technical issues come up all the time in this world. We're also going to confirm all software loads on your PC.
If all goes well, we'll start on an introduction of Adobe Premiere Pro today. I'll go over some basics of the software, how to do some quick cuts and transitions and finally introduce your first project within Premiere.
Lastly, I'll be starting to give you "Papers to have your parents to read & sign". This will include: Equipment check out policy
and an "Ok to watch" permission sheet for film content. I'll have paper copies of these in class, but you may also print out the PDFs below and bring them in. THESE ARE DUE FRIDAY THE 23rd, at the beginning of class. It is also a GRADED assignment.
