Hello Parents of Film-Making 1 & 2!
Thank you for allowing your student to embark on the journey of film-making!
This area is a FAQ spot, that I hope will answer any questions you might have during the school year.
Of course, please do not hesitate to email me at - [email protected] for any questions/concerns not addressed here.
FORMS
Your students will be coming home with two forms for you to read and sign near the beginning of class. These are a graded assignment, as they are both important for the class.
The first is a form for your student to borrow equipment outside of class time to film their projects. The form is your agreement to replace any equipment that is lost/damaged while your student has it checked out. All the equipment is stored in nice durable bags/boxes, so as long as they are stored within these when not in use, there should be little chance of damage.

The second form you'll find coming home, is one on the content of the footage from films we will be watching. This form is your consent to allow your student to view the footage in class. Why do we need this? Consideration for your family. Not every family is OK with certain content, and I want to respect your boundaries.
I will NOT be showing gratuitous violence. sex scenes, or frontal nudity. No Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc. type scenes.
We will be viewing scenes that have been marked as great achievements of cinematography and/or special effects.
A long list of what I might be pooling from can be found here - CLICKY
Please feel free to ask further questions if you're concerned about this content. As a parent myself, I understand and will be transparent with you.

GRADES
I post all my grades, homework, etc to Aeries.
Throughout the years, my students will be graded the heaviest on completing their projects and participation with their team (see below for more on this). This grade will be influenced by both myself and their teammates. I don't believe in allowing students to put in minimal effort and getting the same grade as the rest of their team. Their teammates will be submitting a form to me after every team project, grading their fellow teammate. Of course, I take into consideration my own observations when viewing these submissions.
Individual projects will be solely graded by me. This will be reflected in the description of the project on Aeries.

TEAMS
In my class, I run it as a Project Based Learning environment. Why PBL? Because it's what the real world is really like. I believe teaching students to understand that they need to work together with others as early as possible. Want to know more about PBL? Check out The video to the right! Students are setup in teams near the beginning of the school year. That team will stay typically all year. Sometimes personalities clash, a student drops the class, a student adds the class, and many other reasons can arise to alter the team later. Many of the projects in the class will rely on the students to come together and work on projects outside of class. I have set up a Discord server for the students, to allow easy communication without having to give their phone number out. If you're unfamiliar with Discord, please take a quick read on it HERE. Some projects will be individual. That will be reflected on the descriptions in Aeries. |

I hope you enjoy the skills your students learns in this class. Whether it's just a one time thing, or a future career, you have my promise to create a great learning environment where they can express their artistic talents!
